Kayaking

Our kayaking launching destinations vary each time with opportunities to see and experience new water life. Basic skill level is required.

Kayakers will meet at the designated meet up location by 8:15 am. We then caravan/carpool to the launching site. A/B city parking sticker may be needed or cash/credit card for meter parking at certain launching locations. Trips last about 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on the venue. To beat the heat, we try to be on the water by 9 a.m.

Upon return, the group will usually select a lunch location to eat and recap highlights of the trip. Lunch is optional and at the expense of each participating kayaker.

Kayaks, life jackets, and paddles are provided. Wear clothing and shoes that can get wet. Sun protected clothing is highly recommended. Bring a towel, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, plenty of water, and a sense of adventure.

The fee is only $5 for an Island Senior Member and $20 for Non-Members. All kayak fees must be paid in advance at the time of sign up using cash or check. Space is limited and offered on a first come basis. You must sign up in person at the Sanibel Recreation Center. In the summer months the traditional two week sign up window will be suspended and all three summer trips will be made available in the sign up book.

Island Senior memberships are $20 per year and can be purchased online at Become a Member or at the Rec Center.
